I once took a discussion class in the history of Japanese war arts (not my choice, part of my major). Class met twice a week, with three to five readings for each discussion. By week three students were grumbling about the impossible amounts of readings. My teacher threw up her hands in frustration, "how are you ever going to get through your masters if you don't learn how to manage your readings!" What she meant to say was, "haven't you figured out how to fake reading the readings yet?!" Summaries are there for a reason. Bring the text to the class and highlight all the important stuff the teachers talks about (and actually expects you to know) forget all the other stuff in between. Best lesson I ever got in school. I don’t know. Maybe it's not as easy to fake law as it is bushido politics.

Funny how when I was a kid it was easier to get my assigned reading done than it is now that I'm an adult with kids and husband around.
