Ideas Needed

So. I got nothin' in terms of deep thought. Would you mind if I just walked through New Years menu ideas with you?

Ideas are appreciated. I'm running on empty regarding food ideas.

Could be the sugar orgy I just got done with. Seems like a little salt is in order.

Ok. Did I mention I needed ideas?

Got any?

What are you doing hors d'oeuvres or sitdown dinner? Casual or dressy? How many people? I love the website www.epicurious.com for interesting ideas in food and drinks.

In Pennsylvania, you HAVE to eat pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day, for good luck.

Drain the sauerkraut and rinse lightly with water. Put the sauerkraut on the bottom of a roasting pan, mix in a little brown sugar. Put the pork on top of that, put apples around it all. I use one of those roasting bags. No mess that way. Serve with mashed potatoes.

EVERYBODY here eats pork and sauerkraut on New Year's. If you don't want to do a whole roast, you could use pork chops. BTW, sauerkraut in a jar or plastic wrap is better than canned kraut.

My kids are crazy for roasted red pepper hummus. Like utterly nutso. We just use the Emerald Islands brand (I think that's the name of the brand anyhow!) and then we make up a hummus platter of sorts, with sliced whole wheat pita bread, feta, tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, carrots, some nice olives, just all sorts of veggies really. A little salty/creamy treat of sorts.

Gravadlax with sour cream; red caviare (salmon eggs) on rye bread; chopped liver; chopped herring; salade niçoise... oh, I could go on.

You need to think more deeply, M: you wouldn't be short of ideas, like that.

At this very minute I'm eating a triple chunk chocolate cookie and enjoying it very much. Can't think of anything better. You have yourself one fantastic new year!
