Wardrobe Planning
I love the idea of keeping everything two or three colors. And buying just a few very good pieces. Choosing a motif -- perhaps stripes -- on which to focus. And I love Olivia.
Today's fragrance: Serge Lutens' Un Bois Vanille with notes of coconut milk, black vanilla absolute, caramelized benzoin, licorice, bitter almond paste, gaiac wood, tonka bean, sandalwood. Thankfully, what reaches my nose is a kind of butterscotchy vanillic sandalwood with an occasional whiff of licorice. No coconut here.

That's me! Everything in my work wardrobe is black, brown, grey, or tan. And I'm all about the natty pinstripes. Very Euro-chic. Wish we could go shopping!

Olivia!!!! My favorite. Did you go to the library and pick up one of the FOUR books? He just keeps making them and they are all wonderful books.
Hand me those vertically striped tights and a fine red hand-bag ...and hey! I'm ready for coffee with you!...but I think I'll be wearing a bit of O de Lancome to offset your vanillic reverie.

I personally wear black, white, and gray only.

Oh well ok...I meant horizontally striped tights...to accentuate every unsightly bulge and bump in my 46 year old legs!! hahaha.. Vertical would be better. Maybe Olivia will get some of those in her next story.

I like the idea too. It is very Meg White-ish.
Meg White is from a band I adore called the White Stripes. They only wear red, white and black. Her drum set looks like a candy cane. Swirls of red and white.
Lately she dresses in white gowns like Loretta Lynn used to wear back in the 60's and 70's. The last time I saw her in concert I just fell in love with that look. Big Loretta hair with a gown...and bare feet. I turned to my friend and said that I wanted to dress like that...she said I was nuts. LOL
I think you need a great red coat or bag to start out with. I will keep my eye out for ideas.

I'm reading Michel Pastoureau's The Devil's Cloth; A History of Stripes--- very interesting book.
I had no idea of the symbolism behind the use of stripes in clothing. His discussion so far is mostly limited to western cultures.

interesting -- all I associate them with are prisons and camps -- which I push away in order to think more Chanel thoughts. I'll look for that book. thanks, L. xoxoxo

I loooove Olivia. I have tried to get my boys into those books, but they seem uninterested. They're all about the cowboy books lately. And David Kirk's Little Biddle books.

I don't care what Trinny and Susannah say, I only wear black trousers with various tops, and have done for the past 30 years.
The famous British fashion designer Jean Muir used to wear navy blue clothes exclusively.
There's a lot to say for adopting a "uniform": makes dressing easier and releases brain cells for other things.

I'm a wash 'n wear kind of gal. Stretch polos in every color and mostly tan pants and sandals. And I do love Olivia and I used the name too and did you change your comment thingee for blogger.com only?

Janey, yes -- to try to avoid the spam comments we've all been getting. xoxo
